The National Semiconductor SC/MP development system ISP-8p 301N was released in 1975 as a simple and cost effective microprocessor system
designed to operate in multiprocessor configurations.
Designed to fill the gap between four-bit CPUs (4004, 4040) and eight-bit microprocessors, the SC/MP features a 12-bit address bus,
interfacing directly to 4 K bytes of standard memory. Though it is not a personal computer, a large number of enthusiasts built hobby
computers adapted from kits like this which were intended for industrial prototyping.
